When applied to the forehead, the yajna raksha transmits the full divine energy of the homa to us, giving protection, healing and inner purification. It is a priceless blessing to receive yajna raksha from such a holy event.

Significance of Sri Devi Mahatmyam

Sri Chandi Homam is one of the most powerful homas that can be performed. Sri Bhaskararaya himself expressed the view that Sri Devi Mahatmyam should be considered as “Sruti,” or “divinely revealed knowledge” in the same category as the Vedas.

In Sri Devi Mahatmyam, Devi Herself proclaims that when this great hymn is recited, She will manifest in that place. Many have experienced this to be utterly true.

The mantra most strongly associated with this scripture is Sri Chandi Navakshari. In many traditions, at least one priest must maintain constant silent japam of this mantra while all the other priests are busy conducting the Chandi Homam. Reciting this mantra is powerful in itself, and it also helps us tremendously in opening up to the transforming vibrations of Sri Durga Saptashati.

Chanting Navakshari Mantra or Devi Mahatmyam helps to stop our ordinary thoughts and help us cut through the subtle bondages that limit us and block our true divine nature. When our ordinary thoughts stop, Sri Chandi’s energy rushes into us, filling us with an abundance of spiritual peace, inner strength, and radiant sakti. When this mantra is combined with the powerful practice of homam, the homa fire magnifies this effect tremendously and burns all the impurities within our subtle energy aura.

In the Markandeya Puranam, Rishi Medhasa explains that this Navakshari Mantra has the power to give us “paramaiswarya,” the supreme divine wealth, which is to become one with Sri Parameswara Himself!

2017 Navaratri Sahasra Chandi

During Navaratri this year (Sep 20 – Oct 1), the Sri Vidya Temple will conduct the most powerful and auspicious Sahasra Chandi, in which up to 100 Ritwiks will complete a total of 1000 repetitions of Sri Devi Mahatmyam throughout the Navaratri Mahotsavam. There is no Devi homam more powerful than Sahasra Chandi, and no time more auspicious than Saran Navaratri to perform it. To have the chance to witness, sponsor or participate in such a great event is only due to the unimaginable grace of the Divine Mother. More information will be posted very soon.
If you have any questions, please email or call the Temple (585-533-1970). A volunteer will be happy to clarify any questions you may have. Please help us spread the word by sharing this event with anyone who is interested in such auspicious events.
