DSC_1890 copyNavaratri is quickly approaching! This year, the Navaratri Brahmotsavam will be celebrated from Oct 13 to 24, 2015. The Temple has arranged for some very powerful homas and pujas to be performed during this sacred time. You can view the full schedule and details from our 2015 Navaratri Flyer. Feel free to share the flyer with any of your friends and family who would also be interested.

If you are interested in sponsoring the Navaratri festival and receiving sacred prasadam, please visit bookstore.srividya.org. In addition to the usual sankalpam sponsorships, there are also opportunities for Shankha Tirthabhishekam and Kalasa Puja participation. To book a kalasam, please call the Temple as soon as possible at 585-533-1970 to reserve your spot.

This year, we will have a special Blessed Coin sponsorship. New dollar coins will be placed inside the main Navaratri Kalasam, so that they absorb the holy vibrations of all the homas and pujas through the entire ten-day festival. The coins can then be kept in your wallet or your shrine room for divine protection and blessings.

For devotees of Sri Devi, Saran Navaratri is the most important time in the entire year for worshipping Her, performing seva, pujas and homas, and praying to Her for divine peace, love and grace. During this time, Sri Mata’s infinite love pours onto the entire Earth, showering all beings with the nectar of compassion. By performing or witnessing pujas and homas during this time, we can attract that divine nectar into our hearts and fill our lives with grace and the blessings of divine protection.

This year, three different homas will be performed to invoke the grace of the three main forms of Sri Lalitambika: Sri Maha Durga, Sri Maha Lakshmi, and Sri Maha Saraswati. Please see the flyer for dates.

Any human mother will give her child whatever he or she needs, whether it is food, clothes, guidance, love or education, and Divine Mother is no different. Sri Lalitambika takes many forms in order to guide and bless Her devotees according to whatever they need. During Navaratri, She is worshipped in three main forms in order to invoke Her loving blessings.

Sri Maha Durga is the form of Mother who gives us inner strength and courage. She is the eternal source of all sakti–the power to perform noble acts of dharma. She is Dharma Samsthapini and Dharma Samvardhini–the one who establishes Dharma and the one who supports Dharma and makes it grow, either in a person or in society.

In order to establish Dharma, She must vanquish every form of negativity, and this She does without fail. Sri Maha Durga does battle with all the negative forces within us, so that we will be free of these spiritual blockages and can reach the highest goal. She has been worshipped since ancient times for protection from all kinds of dangerous and wild forces, but Her real blessing is to protect us from the inner enemies of lust, anger, hatred, jealousy, and arrogance.

256px-Lakshmi_by_Raja_Ravi_VarmaSri Maha Lakshmi is the form of Mother who is worshipped in the glorious and radiant “Sri Suktam.” Sri Lakshmi Devi gives us every kind of wealth, which includes so much more than mere financial wealth. The wealth of health, wealth of friendship, wealth of peace, wealth of sattvic and nutritious food–all these are Her gifts.

She drenches us in the nectar of divine love and compassion, and graces us with a loving heart. Under Her influence, we wish to engage in acts of service and charity. As giving is the secret to abundance, this noble charity will enrich us for many lifetimes to come.

Sri Maha Saraswati is well known for Her blessings in education and the arts. She inspires us to use our education for only positive purposes and to cultivate the sacred arts as a form of divine worship and sadhana.

512px-Saraswati_by_Raja_Ravi_VarmaThrough Her grace, music and dance lead us to higher states of consciousness, and words are used to foster harmony, understanding, peace and cooperation. Sri Maha Saraswati also bestows utmost inner purity and peaceful detachment on Her devotees. In this state of equanimity and tranquility, higher truths can be perceived and the greatest goal of moksha can be attained.

By worshipping these three main forms of Sri Devi in succession during the most auspicious time of Saran Navaratri, we can achieve peace, purity, happiness, good health, longevity, and spiritual bliss and elevation. As usual, the Navaratri Brahmotsavam will culminate in the Sri Chandi Homam, the most powerful homam that can be performed on the most auspicious Vijaya Dasami day.

During the auspicious Saran Navaratri, may Divine Mother Rajarajeswari’s most loving grace shower down upon all beings, and may all be drenched in the nectar of Her motherly love.
