Please Join Us for the Navaratri Brahmotsavam ~ 24 Sept to 5 Oct 2014

DSC_1890 copyNavaratri is quickly approaching! This year, Navaratri Brahmotsavam is from Sep 24 to Oct 3. For devotees of Sri Devi, this is the most important time in the entire year for worshipping Her, performing seva, pujas and homas, and praying to Her for divine peace, love and grace.

During this time, Sri Mata’s infinite love pours onto the entire Earth, showering all beings with the nectar of compassion. By performing or witnessing pujas and homas during this time, we can attract that divine nectar into our hearts and fill our lives with grace and the blessings of divine protection.

The Temple has arranged for some very powerful homas and pujas to be performed during this sacred time. You can view the full schedule and details from our 2014 Navaratri Flyer. Feel free to share the flyer with any of your friends and family who would also be interested.

This year, three special homas will be performed: Sri Vana Durga Homam, Sri Maha Sudarshana Homam, and Sri Maha Varahi Homam. Please see the flyer for dates.

Sri Vana Durga means “Durga of the Forest,” and She is the mula rupa or original form of Sri Durga. She was worshipped in ancient times for protection from all kinds of dangerous and wild forces. Her mantra is often recited with Sri Pratyangira Mantra, and She gives protection from every kind of negativity and disturbance in our lives.

Sri Sudarshana refers to the deity of Lord Maha Vishnu’s powerful sudarshana chakra, which He uses to destroy evil and harmful forces. “Sudarshana” literally means auspicious vision, so this mantra will bring us every auspicious gift after clearing away all the negativity. Our lives will be filled with the sattvic and auspicious energy of Sriman Narayana and His eternal consort Sri Maha Lakshmi.

VarahiSri Maha Varahi is an important form of Sri Rajarajeswari, and She is worshipped for the sake of mental peace. Mental peace can be destroyed both by external troubles as well as internal negativity like fear, anger, jealousy, uncontrollable lust, and arrogance. Mother Varahi takes care of both the internal and external problems in order to bestow peace on Her children. She is described as “Danda Natha,” and She represents Sri Lalitambika’s power to rule the universe and enforce truth and dharma everywhere.

All together, these three powerful homas will envelop all devotees and sponsors in a supremely protective energy and will bestow peace, happiness, good health, longevity, and spiritual elevation. As usual, the Navaratri Brahmotsavam will culminate in the Sri Chandi Homam.

Sponsorships Are Available

If you are interested in sponsoring the Navaratri festival and receiving sacred prasadam, please visit bookstore.srividya.org. In addition to the usual sankalpam sponsorships, there are also opportunities for Shankha Tirthabhishekam and Kalasa Puja participation. To book a kalasam, please call the Temple as soon as possible at 585-533-1970 to reserve your spot.

This year, we have a special Blessed Coin sponsorship. New dollar coins will be placed inside the main Navaratri Kalasam, so that they absorb the holy vibrations of all the homas and pujas through the entire ten-day festival. The coins can then be kept in your wallet or your shrine room for divine protection and blessings.

During the sacred Navaratri time, may Divine Mother Rajarajeswari’s most loving grace shower down upon all beings, and may all be drenched in the nectar of Her motherly love.
