Adi Amavasya Sraddha Tarpanam ~ August 2, 2016

chitrapurnami2For those whose fathers have passed away, Adi Amavasya is the day on which to perform Sraddha for the paternal ancestors. This year, Adi Amavasya falls on August 2nd. The Sraddha Tarpanam will be held from 9:30 AM to 2 PM.

Especially if you are not able to perform Sraddha on the exact tithi of your father’s passing, this is the ideal day on which to take care of this important service. We all owe a debt of gratitude to our ancestors and elders, and performing Sraddha is the most important way to repay this debt and express our love and respect.

Those who can come to the Temple on this day are given the opportunity to perform the puja themselves, with guidance from the Temple volunteers. If you wish to do the Sraddha yourself, please make sure you are wearing traditional dress: gents are requested to wear a veshti and angavastram and ladies are requested to wear a sari.

The main pujari will also perform Sraddha on behalf of everyone present, as well as all those who have sponsored, but are not able to physically come to the Temple.

If you would like to do the Sraddha Puja in the Temple, or if you’d like Sraddha done on your behalf, please sponsor online through our online Bookstore. When you sponsor, be sure to give your father’s gotram, name and nakshatram in the “Order Comments” section during checkout (after Payment Information). You may also call the Temple at 585-533-1970 or come to the bookstore to sign up in person.
