Chitra Pournami (Full Moon Day)

Sri Rajarajeswari Peetam will be observing Chitra Pournami Tharpanam on the full moon day in the month of Chitirai (April/May). In this month, the sunshine is in its entire splendor, and the moon which borrows its luster from the sun is just as resplendent.
 
This is a day dear to the Mother. Both full moon and new moon days are good for propitiating forefathers. Austerities on this day please the spirit of one's mother. Ancients believed that austerities on pournami in the months Chitirai and Aippasi help the souls of ancestors to progress through the cosmic maze towards liberation from the cycle of births and death.
 
Special Tharpana Puja will be performed at the temple for Ancestor on this day (Please be at the Temple at 10:00 am to Participate). Please come and participate in the Tharpanam.
